Self-Leadership Occurs through Goal Setting
You MUST Focus On a Specific Goal
Goal setting, defining & planning are key aspects of any successful system; almost all highly successful people in the 21st century set goals. Not only did they set them, but they also identified their long-term vision, set goals around that vision, planned the steps to achieve the goal on a monthly, weekly & daily set of actions and then actually took action required to achieve it.
Without a goal, you have NO destination; without a destination, you are floating around, hoping someone or something will find you one day. Be in control or leave the control to someone who may not always have your best interests at heart?

Choose Your Own Identity
Modelling traits, characteristics and habits of highly successful people will most definitely help your road to success, but you MUST find your own identity, your own authenticity and style. Regardless of what race, religion or gender we are born into, we are all human beings, and we can choose the identity we wish to live by. Doing so takes courage because there will always be people vested in you remaining the same. Be inspired to be a self-leader and consciously choose your own identity.
Speak Up when required.
When needed, being heard is imperative to self-leadership; we each have a voice but don’t always use it. Speaking up can have a price, but so can remaining silent. If we do not speak our truth, we are not living authentically and can be complicit if wrong is done and we say nothing. Everyone has something important and valuable to say; we know when and how to express ourselves when required.
How many times have you regretted not standing up and having a voice, choosing to stay silent and then being angry with yourself, being annoyed for not speaking up when required?
You have a voice, so use it.
Be Resilient
Resilience is the ability to endure adversity and bounce back. The self-leader can face defeat and reframe it as a ‘learning experience’.
Any entrepreneur knows the feeling of failure. Things don’t always go your way, but you have to stay the course and stay positive. Success is not made in the spotlight but forged in tough times.
Adapt to Change
We live in an uncertain world, and the only constant often changes. If you’re waiting on your job to change, your career to change, your paycheque to change, nothing will change. You must drive change if you don’t change.
The ‘David and Goliath’ effect shows that the small guy can win against the giant if they can adapt their strategy and make changes as required. Be inspired to look at hurdles and challenges as an opportunity and remember there’s always a way to win if you are patient and focused.
Win the Crowd
The Gladiators of First Century Rome had to win the crowd and the fight. It is not the best ideas or candidates who win – but the best-supported ones in business and politics. A key self-leadership strategy is influence, and to influence you to give people what they value without giving away your authenticity.
Live a Life with Purpose
Finding purpose in life is a question I get asked a lot. “How do you know when you have found your purpose” “How will I know when I have found mine” “Do you ever really find your true purpose” or “Does Purpose find you”. Well, the honest answer is I really don’t know.
My current purpose in life found me, and I always knew I had the ability to inspire people, teams and business owners to Think BIGGER, Be BETTER and Do MORE every day.
Self-leadership is a journey, and the more self-leadership we attain, the more successful we become, and the more successful we become, the more self-leadership we need.”
Self-leadership develops autonomy (ownership of choice), leading to greater responsibility and accountability, an increase in performance and ultimately, a more rounded and developed human being.
It’s all about taking the right action to get the highest potential outcome in all aspects of your life, both personal & professional.
See you next month, and remember you need to have completed all your Module 2 exercises before the next live session.
